Indoor Rock Climbing Tution and on-going development for Mentally and Physically Challenged individuals and groups

My business is to bring indoor rock climbing to inner-city youth groups e.g. young offenders/disabled community - deaf clubs and serious physical disabilities e.g. Downs Sydrome, Cerebal Palsey, Paraplegic and Aspergers Syndrome children and young adults.

Tuition Plan: Classes to run after school activity sessions, weekend youth club activities and GCSE/A level Physical Education Modules. The courses would also cater for participants in the Duke of Edinburgh Award in conjunction with the local climbing walls in the area.

Pricing Plan: Quoted fee to customer includes equipment, entry costs to the walls and tuition.


I would like to achive youth participation in this excellent sport as I feel it has the potential to turn introverted individuals into extroverted, motivated and passionate members of society and generate an understanding and tollerance towards challenging behaviour and disability through physical activity.    

I feel that channelling the energy of especially young offenders into sport and exercise will reduce criminal activity and reaffending as through climbing they will learn to trust one another and feel enpowered and confident in their abilities to overcome any obsticals that life will deal them. This will be shown through being able to see their progress and not feel that climbing is a competitive sport and thus encourage responsibility for their actions and others.

The same for the disabled community. As a whole, I feel that this area is seen in the outdoor indusrty as a inconvinience sometimes as instructors either don't have the personal qulities to deal with the clients or the relevant training with disability. I would like to change this attitude and encourage participation and intergration within schools and youth groups through the shared struggle climbing as a sport entales.

As the young adults and children can choose their own objectives and personal goals, they are given the skills to operate safely and competently. They can then  progress at their own pace but with regular positive encouragement.  This I feel is the key to maintaining regular phyical exercise and thus creating an atmosephere that will enhance and stimulate the individuals to better themselves outside of the sport.

Ultimately I would like rock climbing to be as accessible as football/rugby in the community and schools.  The key to achieving this is to increase knowledge and awareness of the ongoing practical and mental training.  e.g P.E teachers getting competent and then passing their lessons onto their children and continuing development and opptunities. This will promote the company and thus encourage return customers for regular family sessions, youth groups and clubs.

I feel that as I have worked in the outdoor industry I have always noticed a lack of services offered in this particular area.  I have always tried whenever I have worked at various outdoor centres to be the 'Disability Guy' or rather I have had the most experince and willingness to work with such diverse and sometimes challenging groups (Disability/Referal/Youth Offenders). I have the enthusism, knowledge and skills to be able to get the best from the clients in my care and have strived to ensure that the 'just another birthday party/beginner session' attitude doesn't apply to my sessions and thus my feedback forms show this in both positive feedback and repeat bookings with these particular groups.



I feel that it's time to go out on my own as I feel that I can get involved and cut out the middle man of outdoor centres organising the sessions and thus go direct to these clients and offer my services on a 1:1 basis, which I feel with strengthen my existing relationships with this field of clients. I can then tailior my sessions to how I want to deliver and have on-going development as opposed to how outdoor centres can sometimes have a machine like quality. I want to regain that personal touch to instructing rather than a 'Clip and Play' attitude.
